A LearnToCurl event at the Wilmington Ice House, sponsored by the Coastal Carolina Curling Club, is a unique opportunity to experience the 200+ year old sport of Curling hosted by a 150 year old North American association of enthusiasts and competitors, in the still forming coastal Carolinas region! Learn to curl, join our curling club, and help us this grow beloved sport in the southeastern US!
A dedicated and highly trained member of our curling club will work with your group of 4 – 8 interested curlers during a club open curling or league session to provide both classroom instruction on the history and unique language and culture of curling and most importantly will bring you out onto the ice where you and your friends can learn the ropes!
We start with a half-hour off-ice session in which we go over the basics of curling: safety, terminology, delivery and more. Then we head out to the ice for small group instruction on sweeping, delivery, release and finish by curling a couple ends.
Even if you are unable to lunge like an Olympian, you can still curl. Many folks deliver the stone with a stick from a walking delivery making it a sport all ages and even non-ambulant/wheelchair athletes can play. Please note that minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and we find that children under the age of 12 are likely to find it difficult to deliver a 40 pound stone the length of the ice.
Our club is dedicated to helping you get out on the ice and learning to compete in our many open curling, league, and bonspiel sessions and events, not only in Wilmington, NC but with the many regional curling clubs and events as well!
Learn To Curl sessions are scheduled through the year, and cost $20 per person to attend. Our ice time is usually 2 hours at a time.
Contact our club training chair to learn more, and to find the next opportunity to Learn To Curl! Once you’ve been trained to curl – you are welcome to apply for membership in our curling club and build or join a team for league play.
